Staple Fiber Geotextile Construction

The construction process of short fiber needle punched geotextile needs to follow certain steps and precautions. The following is a detailed introduction to its construction:

Preparation before construction

Material inspection: Ensure that the quality of the geotextile meets the engineering requirements, and check for any damage, aging, or other phenomena. At the same time, check the identification plate of the geotextile to ensure the traceability of the material.

Grassroots treatment: Check whether the grassroots is flat and solid. If there are foreign objects or uneven areas, they should be treated properly in advance. The solidity of the grassroots can prevent uneven settlement or cracking of geotextiles during use.

Tool preparation: Prepare the necessary tools for construction, such as hot air guns, sutures, geotextile knives, etc. Ensure the quality and reliability of these tools to meet construction requirements.

Construction method

Laying method: Manual rolling is used to ensure a flat surface and leave appropriate deformation allowance. During the laying process, it is important to avoid damaging or contaminating the geotextile.

Connection method: The installation of short fiber needle punched geotextile usually adopts several methods such as overlapping, sewing, and welding.

Overlap: The overlap width is generally 0.2m or more, and can be divided into natural overlap, seam joint, or welding according to the terrain and usage characteristics.

Suture: The suture width is generally above 0.1m, and all sutures must be performed continuously without any dotted seams. Before overlapping, the geotextile must overlap by at least 150mm. The distance between the sewing needle and the woven edge (the exposed edge of the material) should be at least 25mm. The sewn geotextile joint should include a single line of wire locking chain joint method. The thread used for stitching should be made of resin material with a minimum tension exceeding 60N, and have chemical corrosion resistance and UV resistance equivalent to or exceeding that of geotextile.

Welding: Hot air welding is the preferred connection method, suitable for geotextiles that may be exposed for a long time. Use a hot air gun to instantly heat the connection between two pieces of cloth at high temperatures, causing some of them to reach a molten state, and immediately apply a certain amount of external force to firmly bond them together. The welding width is generally above 20cm.

Inspection and repair: After the laying and connection are completed, the geotextile should be inspected to ensure that it is laid flat and free of defects. If any damage or non-compliance is found, it should be repaired in a timely manner.

Construction precautions

Cutting and protection: Geotextile can only be cut with a geotextile knife, and other tools that may damage the geotextile should be avoided. During the cutting process, special protective measures should be taken for other materials to prevent unnecessary damage caused by cutting geotextiles.

Preventing damage: While laying the geotextile, all necessary measures must be taken to prevent damage to the underlying material. At the same time, it is necessary to avoid substances such as stones, large amounts of dust or moisture that may damage the geotextile, block drainage channels or filters, or cause difficulties in subsequent connections from entering the geotextile or underneath it.

Coverage and protection: After construction is completed, the geotextile should be covered and protected to prevent UV aging or other forms of damage. At the same time, it is necessary to ensure that the coverage thickness is not less than 30cm to meet the engineering requirements.
